Stardust Racers Closed Indefinitely After Guest Death at Epic Universe

Universal Orlando has shut down Stardust Racers, its flagship roller coaster at Epic Universe, following the death of a guest who became unresponsive during the ride on September 17, 2025.

The victim, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Orange County Medical Examiner ruled the death accidental, citing blunt impact trauma.

Universal has not announced a reopening date. Industry analysts suggest the ride may undergo redesigns or permanent closure depending on investigation outcomes. Stardust Racers had previously logged minor incidents involving dizziness and numbness, according to state safety reports.

Florida’s largest theme parks conduct internal inspections but must report serious injuries or deaths to the state. The incident has reignited debate over regulatory oversight and ride intensity.
